On Saturday morning, we welcomed Gordonstoun to a sunny Countesswells for what turned out to be a very keenly contested S3/4 match over 20 overs with RGC winning by 15 runs. The RGC team batted first and made a very modest 82, with 'extras' contributing significantly to this score. In reply, our bowlers bowled very tidily with Shan, Pankaj and Flo A being the pick. The match became close at the end but the nerve was held. This was the team’s first win and perhaps most notable for having a brother and sister representing RGC in the same cricket team, Flo and Alex A both contributing significantly.
S1 and S2 joined to play a mixed inter-House competition. Blackfriars/Collyhill were victorious with 63 overcoming 56 from Sillerton/Straloch. The winners only had 5 wickets taken ( -20 ) whereas Sillerton/Straloch had 10 ( - 40 ). A really enjoyable morning for all.
On Thursday the S1 and S2 boys tennis team travelled down to George Watson’s College in Edinburgh to play in their first National Cup fixture. All the matches were keenly contested with a great performance from Kevin S (S1), winning his singles match and also his doubles match with partner Oran M (S1). All members of the team showed real skill and determination with many long rallies. This was a great beginning for a team which will grow stronger for the experience. The final score was RGC 2 - George Watsons 4.
What a brilliant P6 and P7 tennis fixture we had against Gordonstoun on Saturday morning at Countesswells. All the matches were played very enthusiastically by both schools with RGC just managing to win a few more matches with some heavy groundstrokes. The final score RGC 11 Gordonstoun 4. The senior teams also had a very close match away at Gordonstoun in the S1 to S3 age teams. All players started with doubles matches and there were some fantastic, all court rallies with many tight matches. The singles followed with all players putting in a maximum effort for their school. Final score RGC 19 Gordonstoun 23.
Well done to everyone who played in a great spirit of friendly competition.
