Athletics
Our P6 Athletics team welcomed pupils from Airyhall and Hazlehead primaries on Wednesday afternoon for a friendly Athletics match with a focus on trying lots of different Athletics events and having fun. Pupils competed in the 60m sprint, long jump, Shot Put, 400m and a relay. There were some fantastic performances, lots of effort and big smiles across the afternoon. Well done to those that took part.
RGC entered 12 pupils into Scottish Schools Championships which took place over 2 weekends recently. On the first weekend Angela M-K (S6) took gold in the Group A Hammer which was a super way to end her school sport career - well done Angela! The following week we had entrants in 100m (Boys B and Girls C), 800m (Girls C), 200m (Girls C), Shot Put (Boys B & C), Discus (Boys C), 3,000m (Boys B), High Jump (Boys B) and 300m (Girls B). There were lots of excellent performances with PBs from Isla K (S2) in 800m, and competitive performances from CJ O (S3) in 100m, Daniel A (S2) in Shot Put and Rurick G in Discus. Tammy O has had a great season so far, reaching the final of the 100m.
Cricket
With no fixtures on Saturday the P5 - S3 boys and girls enjoyed training sessions at Countesswells. With 28 pupils attending we played a round robin pairs tournament which gave each pupil the opportunity to bat, bowl and field.
Tennis
The final of the Scottish U14 Cup on Monday saw RGC host the mighty Hutchesons from Glasgow. Hutchie had swept all before them and this was the case against ourselves, like rabbits caught in headlights our boys were mesmerised by the classy play from our opposition. Our boys knew that the opposition were top notch and soon were back in high spirits knowing that second place wasn't too bad after all. Well done to all the lads who contributed throughout the season and were a credit to themselves and of course the College.
On Thursday we welcomed Merchiston to Countesswells for the U16 Boys Tennis Scotland schools competition. Merchiston proved tough opponents on the day but it was a good experience for our players as they wished Merchiston well in the next round.
Netball
Planning the return of the Grampian Rosebowl Tournament has been a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience. Connecting with staff, players, parents and volunteer coaches from all across the North East has been an fantastic experience to unite everyone’s passion to develop the Netball provision for our young players in Grampian. The format of the Rosebowl Tournament has been modified to welcome over 250 players which could not be possible without the use of the fantastic Netball facilities at Countesswells Sports Field. A huge thank you to the RGC Grounds Staff and Development Office for supporting this event with particular thanks to our head groundsman, Donny Reid. FInally, a huge well done to our Rosebowl Gold Competition Champions, Clerkhill School from Peterhead, and our Gold Competition Runners Up, Cluny School from Sauchen. RGC entered two P6 teams and two P7 teams who all played really well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of competing against so many opponents.
P1-4 Multi Sport
Our keen P1-4s were back out on the water based pitch on Saturday morning in the sunshine. They were learning the batting and bowling techniques for Cricket along with how to hold a Tennis racquet and the correct positioning for taking a shot.
Team of the Week
This week’s TOTW this week are the P6 & P7 Netball girls who took part in Sunday’s Rosebowl Tournament at Countesswells. They all put in a great effort for the entire event and we had our Netball girls split across 4 teams showing the great depth we have.
