Basketball

The RGC Senior Basketball team were in League action again on Monday against Westhill Academy. After a close first quarter the team stepped up their defensive intensity and were in control the rest of the way. It was a true team effort to win the match with contributions from the entire squad.

Football

After last week’s Scottish Cup heroics, the RGC Senior Football side were back at it, with some new names on the team sheet. This time, in the North division of the SISFA league, the match was against St Leonard’s School. It proved to be another tight game, but in the end our boys worked hard to grind out a result and win the match. Thanks to St Leonard’s for making the journey across.

Netball

It has been another busy week for our Netball teams, starting with the 3rd VII who played Westhill Academy in the ASSNA League on Monday. It was a great performance from the girls to keep the game very competitive and they just lost out in the final quarter. Player of the Match was Georgia P for showing excellent leadership throughout.

On Tuesday the 2nd VII were up against Albyn 2nd VII in their Scottish Cup fixture. It was a very strong win for the girls who clicked in the 3rd quarter when we saw some of our best netball. All the players felt the shift and we became composed and the goals began to flood in. Kristina in S5 was our Player of the Match for fantastic accuracy and movement in the circle.

S2B were also in Scottish Cup action on Tuesday against Albyn School. It was great to see some girls playing for the school team for the first time which allowed us to try out some new combinations. The girls worked hard to figure them out and there were some really nice passages of play, resulting in a win for RGC. Player of the Match went to Destiny, who was simply outstanding in Wing Defence, she won so much ball for us! Miss Duddy was delighted to see the girls trying two-handed marking of the ball, something they have been working hard on in training.

It was the turn of the S1-3 Junior Netball team to compete in their Aberdeen Secondary Schools Netball Tournament on Wednesday and they were delighted to come away as joint winners. It came down to a very close final against Westhill Academy with a score of 2-2 at half time then a goal each in the second half meant it finished a draw and the trophy was shared. Miss Stephen was so proud of both the As and the Bs tonight the girls worked really hard in the pool stages and gave it their absolute all on court!

Cancellations Due to the Weather

Sadly our Netball fixture against Gordonstoun on Friday as well as all of our Saturday hockey and rugby fixtures fell victim to the freezing weather conditions.

Team of the Week

This week our TOTW is the S1-3 Junior Netball team for their performance at the Aberdeen Secondary Schools Junior Tournament on Wednesday. The girls worked so hard and fought for every ball. They knew they had the potential to win it but had to ensure they kept calm and won all pool matches and the semi to progress through into the final. With 10 minute matches, anything can happen, it is a lot of pressure! All 9 of our S1 - S3 girls took to the court and showed outstanding teamwork. So far, this team is unbeaten and has also just finished top in Round 1 of the Scottish Cup in their pool. We are looking forward to seeing who our next opponents will be!

Sporting Achievements from Outside School

Congratulations to Victoria M in S4 who was competing along with her Scotland teammates at the British Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Classic Silver Challenge Championships in Surrey at the weekend. The team won 2nd overall team place and individually Victoria ranked 8th out of 76 gymnasts. She placed 4th on vault and 6th on beam.
