Athletics

It was great to host St Leonard’s School for some Athletics fixtures on Wednesday afternoon. Our School P6 and P7 pupils really enjoyed this event, especially as it was such a beautiful afternoon in the sun at Countesswells. There were some fantastic individual and team performances on show.

On Saturday morning there were busy Athletics sessions for P5-7 and also S1-S3. Lots of pupils were putting in the practice for the next week’s Sports Day Heats along with relay changeovers for the Scottish Schools Relay competition which we are delighted is back up and running again this year.

Cricket

As well as hosting St Leonard’s School for Athletics on Wednesday, we were also delighted to have Cricket fixtures for P6 & P7. This was a fantastic experience for all the pupils and another chance to test their skills against another school.

St Leonard’s made the trip back up to Countesswells again on Saturday morning, this time with their S1-S4 teams. Our S1 team also consisted of some P7 pupils and they had a very enjoyable game which ended in their first win of the season! We batted first and made 134 runs, losing 4 wickets. St Leonard’s made 111 runs but lost 10 wickets. There was some good bowling and batting and we still have some work to do in fielding.

S2 had a very successful morning posting 200 runs off their 20 overs. We lost just one wicket and bowled out the opposition in 11 overs, winning by 168 runs. Miss Duddy was very proud of the team who displayed excellent sportsmanship, showing great support and encouragement to the St Leonard’s opposition.

On a beautiful sunny Saturday morning the RGC S3/S4 team entertained St Leonard's School who had just introduced cricket back in to their sport curriculum. On the Main Square RGC batted first running up a total of 92 runs in the 15 allocated overs. Leo M and Ollie W were the pick of the batsmen. In return, St Leonard’s found the pace and accuracy of siblings Flo A and Xan A challenging along with the spin of Pranav. It was a close call at the end, but St Leonard’s came up 10 runs short. More catching practice is now required to move forward and make future matches less tense in the final overs.

Team of the Week

Well done to our S2 Cricket team who are TOTW. They won the toss and opted to bat first with only one lost wicket. RGC managed to take this form into the bowling and fielding. The more noticeable thing about the victory was their outstanding sportsmanship and support of the opposition, some of whom hadn’t played hard ball before. Some particularly nice moments saw our boys giving batting and bowling tips to their players, helping them through.

Sporting Achievements Out With School

Well done to several of our pupils who were representing Scottish Hockey U14s at the District Tournament at the weekend.

Congratulations to S2 pupils Polina C & Julia O who were part of the Beacon Rubies team who came 3rd at the British Gymnastics Group Championships. Well done girls, what a great achievement!
