Scottish Rugby and inspiresport visited Robert Gordon’s College this week to present the first place award in Scottish Rugby’s inspiresport Caledonia/East Conference 2024/25. This is a significant achievement for S1-S6 rugby at Robert Gordon’s, recognising the hard work, dedication, and skill displayed throughout the season.

Playing a key role in developing the rugby programme at Robert Gordon’s, Mr McKay, Head of Rugby, shared: “Rugby at Robert Gordon’s College has demonstrated outstanding progress this season, establishing a strong foundation of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Our collective commitment to improvement has been evident throughout the season, and this first place finish marks a significant milestone in our development as a rugby programme.

“Looking ahead, we are focused on continuing our growth as a rugby community and striving for even greater success. The players are eager to elevate their performances, building on the momentum they’ve gained this year. As a coaching team, we’re working closely with all players to refine their skills, enhance their tactical understanding, and ensure they remain at the top of their game.”

Rudi Urbach, Area Director - Caledonia at Scottish Rugby, said: "Scottish Rugby are delighted to be able to support holistic environments like RGC to highlight their on-field successes. We recognise and celebrate the School's Leadership structures, Staff (Academic and Sports) and Parents in working hard to support the development of young people in your community by creating a positive, player-centred environment that has supported the progression of the learners in your care. The boys have embraced this which has resulted in on-field success and we congratulate them for winning the Caledonia/East Schools Conference for Season 2024/25."

Mr McLeod, Director of Sport, added: “Over the last 18 months, there have been many postive changes to our rugby programme, with a significant focus on creating a positive environment for all rugby pupils. Having this as a priority has naturally led to success, including winning the conference and the 1st XV securing victory in the U18 Plate Final at the HIIVE.”

Mr Macpherson, Head of College, highlighted: “This is a proud moment for us as we continue to raise our standards in rugby. We have increasing levels of participation and higher expectations, and with the really positive culture that our coaching staff have created, it’s no surprise that success is following. Our aim is to keep this level of success up so that we are improving year on year, which is an incredibly exciting place to be. Congratulations to all the pupils - their passion and dedication for rugby is really clear, and Countesswells is always a hive of activity thanks to them.”
