A team of S6 pupils (Douglas F - Project Manager, Sean A, Patrick A, Alistair F, Vaibhav C and Jamie S) won this year's STEM in the Pipeline competition. In addition to a first place win they were also awarded the Project Management prize.

Mrs Pathakji shared: "Team Paddy Petroleum attended the Introduction Day at the University of Aberdeen in September. They learnt about geology, geophysics, engineering and finance. Then over the course of three months the team created a Field Development Plan, that had net zero emissions and incorporated the use of Python scripts. With guidance from mentors from Chrysaor (Jonathan Murray and Fraser Proud) the team produced a professional report and presented their findings to industry experts at a presentation day at BP's headquarters in Dyce. The competition was tough, but the team impressed the judges by going above and beyond the task."

Douglas said: “This has been a very rewarding experience. It’s developed my confidence, my ability to manage a team and get things done within a certain deadline. I feel like the range of skills we had on the team was really helpful because we had lots of different perspectives on all the different challenges and lots of different aspects were incorporated in the project such as finance, coding, and chemical engineering.”

This is the sixth year that the school have participated in the competition run by TechFest and sponsored by BP, Chevron, Chrysaor, OPITO and the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA).
