You may recognise these two S6 pupils, Iona and Leo, from a number of school shows. Both have thrived in the Creative Arts space, providing help not only to their peers on set, but also providing musical expertise and guidance to younger pupils in the Junior School. 

We are delighted to share that, following a series of intense auditions, Iona and Leo have earned coveted places in the prestigious British Youth Music Theatre. Leo completed his experience with BYMT in March, while Iona will take to the stage this summer. 

Recapping on his experience, Leo said: “At the beginning of March I was offered to be part of the pit band for BYMT’s production of “The Naughty Carriage on the Orphan Train” a Musical Comedy based on unwanted children and their journey to find their “best family in the world. 

“This entire journey was an incredible experience and really solidified my passion for session music as well as working in and around musical theatre. I loved every second of my time away in Birmingham and look forward to keeping in touch, and hopefully performing again, with BYMT. In September I’m beginning my three years honours degree in Music Performance and I’m incredibly excited to step further into my career in the industry.

Iona, who is looking forward to performing as part of BYMT this summer, shared: “I am so excited to be joining BYMT’s summer production of Worn Out. After being part of Wonderland in Alice last year, I’m really excited to return to BYMT and continue developing my performance skills in such a creative and supportive environment. 

“One of the best parts of BYMT is the opportunity to make friends for life from all over the UK and Ireland. Even though each year brings a new group of people and creative team, the connections you make are always something special. I’m looking forward to working with this new team and being part of what’s sure to be another unforgettable production!”
