S4 pupils at Robert Gordon's College undertook the annual Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) during their Projects Week (17th-21st June).

Throughout the week, the 26 groups participated in multiple talks and workshops delivered by guest speakers such as Dee Bleakley and Chris Moule, which enhanced pupils' pitching and presentation skills ahead of the heats on Thursday, followed by the finals on Friday.

The Finals were held in the Craig Centre, with a panel of four judges determining who would win the £3000 for their charity. The judging panel included Mr Macpherson (Head of College), Judith Thorpe (Founding Director, TMM Recruitment), Niall MacKenzie (Senior Client Lead, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals at Google NYC and Class of 2006), and Jacob Campbell (Director of Belmont Community Cinema and Class of 2014). All the judges spoke fondly of our finalists, with the winning decision being a very tough one to make!

The winning group, which consisted of Murray B, Sophie K, Abbie H, Lewis K, Declan M and Ziko A, represented Forget-Me-Not. Forget-Me-Not is a charitable organisation based in Banchory, and helps to support individuals and families who are affected by dementia. The winning team successfully demonstrated their charity by presenting their pitch in the eye-catching and entertaining format of a game show and sharing impactful videos and personal stories. The judges highlighted how close the finalists were, saying that all seven teams could have won the prize.

Abbie, one of Group 15’s members said that the best part about winning was “definitely phoning the charity to tell them that they would be receiving £3000”, as well as emphasising how close she is personally to the charity, whilst Mr Macpherson described the decision as “beyond impossible, the hardest decision I have had to make for YPI so far!”

Congratulations to Group 15 and we hope that the £3000 will help to support Forget-Me-Not and leave a lasting positive impact in the community.
